Obverse: TASCI in panel at centre of a plain vertical wreath.

Reverse: Stag, left, looking back over its left shoulder, pellet in ring above, ring below and VER in front.

History: There are only two known examples of this coin in existence. The obverse inscription TASCI refers to Tasciovanus who became king of the Catuvellauni, around 20BC, shortly after Caesar had finally left Britain. The VER inscription on the reverse refers to Verulamium, one of several settlement centres of the Catuvellauni that thrived during the latter half of the first century BC, and very likely became the capital town under Tasciovanus.
