Obverse: Third laureate bust facing right, with elephant below. Text around CAROLVS II DEI GRATIA.

Reverse: Crowned cruciform shields, sceptres at angles, two pairs of cruciform interlinked C's at centre. Text around MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX. Date either side of crown above English shield.

History: The provenance marks of the elephant located below the monarch's bust denote that the bullion for the coin was supplied to the Mint by the Royal African Company who imported it from Guinea. This is where the 'Guineas' coins also got their name.
