History:
Born in Ayrshire in 1274 and descended from
David I, Robert The Bruce at first swore loyality
to the English King Edward I. After Edward
I deposed John Baliol in 1296 Robert became
leader of the opposition in Scotland to English
domination. In 1306 he took the Scottish throne,
however real victory did not come until 1314
when Robert I of Scotland defeated Edward
II of England. Robert I ruler until his death
in 1329. Robert did not issue coins until
1320.
