History:
The empire reached its greatest geographic
extent under Trajan, the direct result of
his many military triumphs. The legends GER
DAC on the coin obverse refer to his German
and Dacian triumphs. Trajan was officially
designated the honorary title "optimus
princeps", best of emperors by the senate.
