History:
General discontent over Nero's rule flared
into open revolt in Gaul, and though it was
put down, Galba's troops proclaimed him Augustus.
The Senate agreed, Nero committed suicide,
and Galba was Emperor - but no for long. He
was as stingy as he was wealthy, and alienated
those who expected bribes and largesse, in
particular the Praetorian Guard, who conspired
with Otho, and beheaded Galba and his chosen
successor in the Forum.
