Obverse: Wreathed head of Persephone right with eight petal flower behind.

Reverse: Charioteer driving biga right, holding kentron in right hand and reins in left. Text in exergue IERWNOS.

History: Heiron II was tyrant of Syracuse, Sicily, from 270 to 215 BC. He struggled against the Mamertines and eventually allied his city with Rome. As an ally of Rome, Heiron II furnished money and fighting forces against Carthage in the Punic Wars.
