History:
Heiron II was tyrant of Syracuse, Sicily,
from 270 to 215 BC. He struggled against the
Mamertines and eventually allied his city
with Rome. As an ally of Rome, Heiron II furnished
money and fighting forces against Carthage
in the Punic Wars.
