ET IND AE IMP. (Reverse) the words FOR CONSPICUOUS
GALLANTRY in three lines within a crowned
laurel wreath.

White with dark blue edges (Royal Navy)
Comments:
Conceived as the naval counterpart to the
DCM, it was instituted for award to petty
officers and seamen of the Royal Navy and
to NCOs and other ranks of the Royal Marines.
Originally awarded only for gallantry during
the Crimean War, it was revived in 1874 to
recognise heroism during the Ashantee war
and has since been awarded for other wars
and campaigns.
